Jia Li - Asian Inspired Cabinet

This is an unusual piece for me. This isn't something I would normally pick up, but she found her way to me, so I supposed she wanted to be transformed, and of course I couldn't refuse her!

Jia Li means 'good and beautiful'.  She is very solidly built of some very heavy wood.  I also think she turned out quite beautiful.  She is Jia Li!

After painting her a true red it was fun to both tone the red down and compliment it in such a lovely way by dry brushing her in a light teal.

In addition I went over her with a dark glaze which further enhanced her lovely details.

Her bottom shelf and inside are were painted the teal without the red.  It gives her a nice balance and surprise when you open up the cabinet.  I still used the dark glaze.

I'm not sure what her original purpose was, at first I thought a media cabinet, but there were no holes in the back for cords, although they could be added easily enough.  I actually needed to replace the back due to some damage.  She would make a lovely linen storage or even a very cute wet bar with a basket in the bottom.

  1. I like your little piece, and I always love finding blogs from around the northwest. I'm from the Coeur d'Alene Idaho area, if you are ever in town stop by Paris Flea Market where I have a space. I think you would like the store.

    1. Hi! I used to live in Omak, WA and I've been to Coeur d'Alene a few times. It's a beautiful place and one day I hope to visit there instead of just pass through. Welcome!
